Election Night promises to be filled with suspense and excitement particularly at one Southland restaurant. The Anaheim White House is hosting “Race To The White House,” featuring live coverage of the election proceedings on specially placed TV screens and four-course Obama vs. McCain menus that allow guests to support their favorite candidate, announced Bruno Serato, proprietor of the critically acclaimed restaurant. Guests 21 and older who show proof they voted will receive a complimentary bottle of Champagne. The fun begins at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, November 4. The prix fixe menus, four courses for $44, feature such items as John McCalamari and Sarah Palin pasta e fagioli soup on the Republican menu and the more “left leaning” Barack O-Chicken and Joe Biden veal. According to Serato, the evening is intended to be a good-natured event with guests from either end of the political spectrum coming together to celebrate our freedom to vote and the spirit of the electoral process.

Daily Grill is helping kick off the holiday season by introducing three-course turkey dinners with a portion of the proceeds benefiting the Union Rescue Mission, the nation’s largest shelter of its kind serving the poor and homeless. From October 27 through the end of November, Daily Grill’s Southern California locations will offer a three-course turkey dinner featuring a choice of butternut squash soup or mixed green salad; roasted turkey served with stuffing, mashed potatoes, fresh garden vegetables and cranberry sauce; and harvest spice bread pudding topped with a whiskey sauce for $21.95 per person. What do you have to be thankful for? That’s the theme of an essay writing contest for grade schoolers from around the Southland who will have an opportunity to compete for scholarships thanks to Stonefire Grill’s second annual Thanksgiving-themed essay writing contest. The youngsters will compete for scholarships in the form of U.S. Savings Bonds including a $1,000 bond for first place, $500 for second and a third place prize of $250. Finalists will appear at a complimentary luncheon to be held in their honor just before the Thanksgiving holiday and each will receive complimentary gift certificates to be redeemed at any Stonefire Grill location. Essays must be no more than one page and only one submission per student will be accepted. All entries must contain the following information to be considered: name, age, grade, city, school name, teacher’s name and parent’s daytime phone number.
