Something Sweet Is Brewing – Marina Kitchen – San Diego

The Marriott Marquis San Diego Marina and Monkey Paw Pub & Brewery announce the introduction of the Honeycomb Harvest Cream Ale – a locally sourced craft beer that is brewed with organic, raw honey harvested from the nearly 70,000 honey bees living on the rooftop of the iconic downtown San Diego property.

The beer will be introduced at a launch party held at Marina Kitchen on the evening of Friday, September 18 and will features samples of the Honeycomb Harvest Cream Ale, bee-bites, honey inspired cocktails and live music. Free to attend, the celebration begins at 7:00 p.m.

“Urban beekeeping,” or the practice of keeping bee colonies in urban areas, was implemented at the Marriott Marquis in an effort to reduce the property’s carbon footprint and promote the conservation of local nature. Local beekeepers tend to the hives each week, which allows the property to produce its own honey and pollen, that is in turn used throughout its restaurants and catering menus.

Marina Kitchen’s craft-beer centric bar program along with a menu that is designed around ingredients from local purveyors inspired the Marriott Marquis to partner with Monkey Paw Pub & Brewery in an effort to create a 100% local craft beer that can be served throughout the property.

“Being actively involved in urban beekeeping and the re-colonization of docile honey bees, paired with our passion for craft beer and desire to offer local, organic and sustainable menu offerings, led us to produce a craft beer made with the honey from our own bees,” said Steve Pagano, Hotel Manager of the Marriott Marquis and Marina. “When selecting a brewery to collaborate with, it was important that they were advocates for the consumption of local products, and this shared vision is what made Monkey Paw Pub & Brewery a natural fit.”
