9th Annual Fat Tuesday and a Taste of New Orleans
March 4th 2014 from 5pm
Live Music
We are thrilled again to have our 9th annual Fat Tuesday Dinner. This all began with my cooking adventure on the Mississippi River and The Delta Queen Steamboat years ago. The Delta Queen is an old elegant steamboat built in 1927 and is on the National Register of Historic Places and a National Historic Landmark. Its great American history along with its grand Victorian decor really is something to experience. The Delta Queen is no QE 2. It cruises up and down the Mississippi River, it was February and “The Mighty Mississippi” was frozen solid.
I was informed by the management company what was expected of me. I was to design a menu for the week, train the chefs on board, give a daily cooking class and then nightly have dinner at the captains table. They arranged to pick me and one of my sous-chefs up at 6 a.m. on a cold Sunday morning for a three hour drive to Hannibal Missouri, (yes the birth place of Tom Sawyer) to board the boat and get a history lesson on Tom, Becky and the white fence.
We took off and headed to La Crosse Wisconsin for our first stop and I don’t remember where else, all I knew was we were going from cold to colder and were breaking through ice heading up the river.
