American Beverage Institute against interlocking ignition installation in all vehicles

393

ABI, American Beverage Institute, is vehemently against the proposal from the Alliance of Automobile Manufacturers to the Federal Government to allot them $30 million annually to automobile companies for the development of the installation of ignition interlock devices. Automobile companies have united with Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) and the Federal Government to support the mandate for all automobiles to be manufactured with the interlock system within the next 5-10 years. The proposed project promises that the interlocking systems will be set at the legal limit of 0.08, but the ABI disagrees stating that the interlocks will have to be set below somewhere between 0.03-0.04 for a number of reasons. ABI also states that the automobile companies are just looking for a way to obtain bailout money from the government just to stay afloat.
