Southern California Chipotle restaurants support the foundation’s efforts to create skateparks in low-income communities with in-store fundraiser.

To celebrate “Go Skateboarding Day” on Saturday, June 21, 2014, Chipotle invites all guests to visit any Southern California Chipotle restaurant to help support the Tony Hawk Foundation, the charitable, non-profit organization of its namesake, professional skateboarder Tony Hawk. To participate in the fundraiser, diners visiting from 4-8 p.m. can mention “Tony Hawk” or the “Tony Hawk Foundation” at the time of purchase, and Chipotle will donate half of the proceeds from these sales, with a minimum of $25,000, to benefit the Tony Hawk Foundation’s efforts to create high quality, public skateparks in low-income areas in the United States. The Tony Hawk Foundation provides technical assistance and funds for high-quality public skateparks in low-income areas throughout the United States that promote healthy, active lifestyles, and to International programs that enrich the lives of youth through skateboarding. Tony Hawk Foundation has awarded over $5.1-million to 544 communities in all 50 states.

“We feel that the Tony Hawk Foundation’s mission to promote healthy and active lifestyles is an important one, and very much aligned with our own company values,” said Chris Arnold, communications director at Chipotle. “The Go Skateboarding Day’ promotion provides Chipotle and our Southern California guests an opportunity to collectively support a great organization that is enriching our local communities.”

The Tony Hawk Foundation was established in 2002, providing technical assistance and funds for skateparks in low-income areas throughout the country to promote healthy, active lifestyles, and to International programs that enrich the lives of youth through skateboarding. “Go Skateboarding Day” was founded in 2003 by the International Association of Skateboard Companies in the “capital of skateboarding”, Southern California. The official holiday of skateboarding, the celebration is held every year on June 21, and is a cooperative of decentralized events that take place around the globe to commemorate the culture of the sport.
