Who’s got the better wine, Italy or California? It’s an often asked question that guests from L’Opera Ristorante in downtown Long Beach will be answering during a 6-week period this fall. Every Friday night, October 17 November 21, the critically acclaimed dining destination will offer a 4-course prix fixe menu where guests will be able to try Italian and California vintages after which they will cast their votes for their favorite wines. (Wines made from similar grapes of each region will accompany each of the 4 courses.) At the conclusion of the campaign, guests will be invited to learn which region is preferred at a finale mixer/tasting on Tuesday, December 9th from 6:30 8 p.m.
“We have so many wine aficionados who frequent our restaurant and the question is always posed as to which region Italy or California produces the finest wine,” said owner Terry Antonelli. “We decided to let the people decide, hence the campaign. Chef Walter has created a stellar menu to accompany the fine wines and we’re excited to see how this plays out.”
Prix fixed dinner with 2 oz pours $79 per person; 3 oz pours $89 per person. Finale mixer/tasting, which will include passed hors d’oeuvres, is $20.
