Located just north of the Newport Beach Pier at the waterfront, it will bring an eclectic blend of sandwiches, salads, and breakfast complete with local craft beers and fresh-brewed espresso drinks.

Open 6 am daily, Dory Deli will offer a breakfast menu featuring items such as sweet potato biscuits andgravy and a bagel benedict made with Costa Mesa’s own Shirley’s Bagels. Said Executive Chef ChrisRubinstein, “I thought about the things that I like to eat for breakfast. I wanted to include items that werefun, yet simple. I tend to think simple is better, but it doesn’t have to mean boring, either.”

Dory Deli will offer espresso beverages made with locally roasted Kean Coffee and pulled on NewportBeach’s only Slayer Espresso machine. “We chose Kean because they’re a local, independent coffeeroaster, and Martin (Diedrich) has a lot of respect in the industry,” said owner Andrew Gabriel. “When itcame time to choose our espresso machine, there was no question- it had to be a Slayer. We’re the onlyones around with this machine, which is handmade in Seattle. It’s unique in that it can flavor profile coffee, which will help make great Kean coffee even better.”

Open late to accommodate local night owls, the deli will serve artisan deli sandwiches and salads. Althoughdeli staples will comprise part of the menu, guests can expect to see more than the traditional Phillycheesesteak or pastrami on rye. “I grew up in Philadelphia going to delis with my family. Sandwiches andJewish food always played a big part in what my mom cooked and what we ate as a family. When I waswriting the menu, I wanted traditional classics that you could find in any east coast Jewish deli, but I alsowanted to put my own spin on them with what I’ve learned in my 18 years of nomadic cooking.”

People who lean toward a vegetarian diet will be happy as well, with a hearty selection of plant-basedsandwiches like the oyster mushroom po’boy or buffalo cauliflower sandwich. “I never want to stray toofar from my roots in plant-based cuisine. We take as much pride in our vegan or vegetarian items as we doin our traditional deli fare.”

In addition to a diverse menu, the deli will offer a well-balanced selection of beer and wine, includingmany local craft brews. Beers such as Noble Ale Works’ Big Whig IPA and Beach City Brewing’s PiersidePilsner will be offered on draft, while a full wine menu will feature varieties from Napa, Santa Barbara, andNew Zealand.

“I’m excited to open Dory Deli,” said owner Mario Marovic. “It’s been a passion project of mine and I’mhappy to finally be able to share it with the neighborhood. I wanted it to be representative of the NewportBeach lifestyle: a relaxing atmosphere that offers the best in food and drink. I look forward to coming hereearly in the morning with my two young children for breakfast or meeting my friends here for a beer in theevening.”
