The Gray Event

Having convinced Orange County of his unmatched capability with classic French cuisine, Chef Pascal Olhats is sharing his skills and hosting a fundraising event to shine light on a little-known issue near to his heart: preventing the abuse of Asian elephants.

Olhats was inspired to take action after enjoying an ecotourism vacation with his wife, Christine, at Save Elephant Foundation’s Elephant Nature Park preserve in Chang Mai, Thailand. “We met elephants rescued from all over the region,” said Olhats. “Some had scars from shackles, while others had been used for tourist entertainment, causing major damage to their bodies. I was inspired by SEF’s founder Lek Chailert, and knew I wanted to take action once I returned home.”

4.30 PM – Thai experience reception featuring music, dance, drinks, appetizers, silent auction, photo ops, and an opportunity to “Adopt an Elephant”
6.00 PM – Dinner and cooking demonstration by Chef Pascal Olhats and Cathy Thomas, and a presentation on the Save Elephant Foundation by Lek Chailert

Dinner guests will enjoy a delicious three-course dinner with Thai dancers, a blessing from Thai monks, a live auction featuring a week’s stay at the Elephant Nature Park, a cooking demonstration with Chef Pascal and Cathy Thomas, and a presentation on the Save Elephant Foundation by Lek Chailert, who is flying in from Thailand for this event.

Reception – hors d’oeuvres, wine and live entertainment $125 per person

Entire evening including three course dinner, wine and cooking demonstration
$250 per person

Lek started rescuing elephants one at a time. Now she has 75 elephants in Chiang Mai at the Elephant Nature Park. She is opening another sanctuary in the mountainous area of Thailand. She is working with the farmers and teaching them how to treat these animals better. She is working on saving wild elephants and stopping the killing of entire elephant families. The poachers do this as a way to steal the baby elephants. They are raising funds to help her with the sanctuaries, medicine and supplies to help care for the elephants.

“Sherman Gardens is the perfect backdrop for an event focused on such beautiful animals,” said Olhats. “I know our guests will be inspired not only by the program we have planned, but the sheer beauty that will surround them throughout the evening.”
