Restaurateurs across the country are constantly searching for new ways to bring in consumers and increase profit margins. The rise in popularity of private label wine is one of those very opportunities that have proven quite lucrative in recent years. There are a number of reasons to get involved in the business of private label wines, and restaurants across the country have recently found a niche in the game.

First and foremost, restaurants that sell private label wines experience a wide array of benefits. Kyle Thacker, with un-corkd.biz, suggests that “private wine labels are the perfect branding strategy for restaurants and bars [as] they create a unique selling opportunity for your servers and bartenders [and] your restaurant will get great margins on private labels” Thacker expands on each reason, should a restaurateur find themselves deciding to get involved in the game.

Consumers love the concept of exclusivity. Moreover, many wine aficionados and novices are always on the lookout for the best and newest trends on the market. Servers and bartenders can address this opportunity by introducing their restaurant’s private label wines. A customer may feel more inclined to give a restaurant’s private label a try knowing they can only get that label there.

Restaurateurs entering the business of private label wines can choose to produce their own wine, or partner exclusively with a winemaker, with the added benefit of “cutting out the middleman.” Hannah Wallace with sevenfifty.com explains that “higher than average margins is one reason why [restaurants] have ratcheted up their private-label offerings.” The profits made from these sales do not have to be spent on marketing, but can go directly back into the restaurant to possibly expand on their private label wine categories.

A restaurant that produces their own exclusive line of wines opens up a great branding opportunity. Restaurateurs can expand their brand awareness among consumers in turn, increase profit on the private label wines. Investing in a private label wine can have myriad benefits, namely attracting new customers and elevating profit margins.
