The Los Angeles/Orange County chapter of Les Dames d’Escoffier presents the ground-breaking documentary film “A Fine Line…A Woman’s Place is in the Kitchen” screening on Sunday, October 6 at Hotel Irvine’s plush theater.

From director/producer/editor Joanna James, the film explores why less than 7% of lead chefs and restaurateurs are women. It presents perspectives and experiences from world-renowned chefs including Three-Michelin Star San Francisco Chef Dominique Crenn; Emmy award-winning chef and TV host/restaurateur Lidia Bastianich; Two-Michelin Star Chef April Bloomfield; California-based first female Iron Chef Cat Cora; and many others. “Fine Line…” is also the poignant story of small town restaurateur Valerie James – an uplifting American success story about perseverance, family and food.

“A Fine Line…A Woman’s Place is in the Kitchen” has won several prestigious awards including recognition from the Napa Valley Film Festival, the San Luis Obispo International Film Fest, GLOBEDOCS official selection and Philadelphia’s The Women’s Film Festival. It has garnered press from The Boston Globe, USA Today, Food & Wine Magazine, Forbes, NPR, Dallas Observer, NBC4 and other national media.

A fundraiser for the Los Angeles/Orange County chapter of Les Dames d’Escoffier, the event includes a pre-screening reception starting at 2 p.m. with cheese, charcuterie and wine, champagne or water and the 80-minute screening beginning at 3 p.m. Admission is $65, which includes the reception, two drink tickets and movie. All proceeds will benefit the Phyllis Ann Marshall Culinary Scholarship fund to assist young culinarians. Self-parking is an additional $5 with validation. Tickets can be purchased at LesDameslaoc.org/events.
