1183

Oak & Coal just opened its first store on the busy retail strip of East 17th street in Costa Mesa, June 2017.  It features “Yakitori” or Japanese skewers of organic, free range poultry, wagyu beef, free range pork, and fresh vegetables cooked slowly over Japanese oak.  There is also a rotating tap selection of craft beers from various local breweries.

Oak & Coal utilized well known green architect, Jorden Segraves, to design this cozy 1400 square foot space. Although it is Oak & Coal’s first location, owner/operator Jeff Chon also runs The Alley in Newport Beach, Tabu Shabu, and The Wayfarer in Costa Mesa.

The menu not only features yakitori, but also includes unique soba noodle dishes as well as daily handmade kimchi dumplings in limited supply.  Oak & Coal is a welcome contemporary Japanese cuisine addition to the Eastside.

The restaurant is located at 333 East 17th Street #2, Costa Mesa, CA.
