PACIFIC HIDEAWAY SERVES UP COASTAL CUISINE WITH SURFSIDE VIBES
New Huntington Beach Eatery & Bar Blends Global Flavors with California Cuisine
Set above the high tideline at the epicenter of Surf City USA, Pacific Hideaway debuted May 2017 as Huntington Beach’s newest seaside hotspot led by Executive Chef JT Walker. An elevated yet laidback refuge, the worldly-influenced restaurant effortlessly takes guests from breakfast to happy hour to dinner with small and large plates accompanied by a bright, playful cocktail program.
Designed by Theresa Fatino, Pacific Hideaway is a casual yet polished space within the newly renovated Shorebreak Hotel. The restaurant evokes an eclectic Southern California vibe layered with international accents such as hand-crafted finds from Mexico, Indonesia and Japan. With open spaces to take advantage of the ocean and pier views, the 85-seat dining room gives way to the expansive patio by way of roll-up garage doors, which provide a seamless indoor-outdoor flow. The interior is done in a palette of marine blues, whites and browns while the focal point of the space – a vibrant mural of Frida Khalo – provides a splash of contrasting colors. Anchoring the dining room is a 14-seat bar with custom-carved wood paneling representing ocean waves, inviting solo travelers and beachbound groups to belly up for a cocktail.
The menu, developed and executed by Executive Chef JT Walker, is centered on the lush offerings of Southern California, incorporating Pacific coastal flavors alongside Latin and Asian influences. Designed to be a shareable experience, the dinner menu is anchored by small and large plates including Grilled Short Ribs with smoked ancho, chimichurri, yuzu, Bibimbap Noodle Bowls with black pepper sauce, sunny egg, assorted vegetables, Beer Can Game Hens with broccolini, black bean puree and Lao Sausage Lettuce Wraps with house-made sausage, crispy sticky rice, coconut, pickled garlic, bang bang sauce. Serving breakfast on weekdays, with extended weekend brunch hours, morning meal offerings include Rio Bowls with acai sorbet, house made granola, blueberries, banana, House-Cured Smoked Salmon with everything bagel chips, capers, red onion, green onion cream cheese, Huevos Rancheros with two eggs, black bean puree, Oaxacan chile sauce, pico de gallo, cotija cheese, and California Breakfast Burritos with scrambled eggs, bacon, waffle fries, avocado, cheddar cheese, sweet Thai chili sauce.
The bar program, spearheaded by Lead Bartender Casey Lyons, features a playful and bright collection of cocktails including the Do Not Disturb with sauvignon blanc, aviation, sparkling wine, honey, lemon, Toes in the Sand – a playful homage to Zimzala, the name of the previous restaurant in the space, meaning “the feeling of the sand between ones toes” – made with denizen, luxardo maraschino, honeydew, orgeat, lime, and the Safe Word with Absolut Vodka, Tanqueray Gin, pamplemousse, elderflower, tonic. The California-focused wine program features more than 25 wines all available by the glass and bottle. Many of the varietals can be found along Pacific Coast Highway, furthering Pacific Hideaway’s connection to beach influences. A reserve list of wines is also available. The beer selection includes 13 beers on draught, including local favorites from Evans Pollen Nation and Golden Road, in addition to canned and bottled options.
