Paper Lantern is the latest venture from Allan Tea (Hello Kitty Café Pop Up Container, Hello Kitty Café Food Truck, Capital Seafood Restaurant Group), who’s partnered with the team behind Los Angeles’ acclaimed Mama Lu’s Dumpling House. Additionally, Tea has assembled
his dumpling dream team by tapping the culinary talents of veterans from Din Tai Fung and Sugarfish – the goal is to grow the concept into a multi-unit chain.
“Dumplings really are the perfect food – and they have such massive crossover appeal,” said Tea. “We wanted to build a concept based off of that, but we also wanted to do it right and also have fun with it.”
The restaurant will seat 60 people and will feature an outdoor dining patio. In addition to the usual trio of dumpling condiments such as soy sauce, vinegar and chili oil, Paper Lantern will also offer its own house-made dipping sauce.
Paper Lantern is slated to open early September and will be located next to Shinhan Bank, across from Ajisen Ramen at 2730 Alton Pkwy, C- 101, in Irvine.
