Craft Beer 101 – IPA Glass

Whether you’re trying to impress your friends at the bar or you’re an avid beer drinker, Greg Nagel of OCbeerblog.com and our weekly Brewday Monday: Craft Beer 101 Q&A will give you something to talk about.

Q: I love India Pale Ale! Do you recommend a particular glass to enjoy an IPA?

A: I do! One particular glass I don’t recommend is the standard american shaker pint glass with its wide, open top. Modern west-coast IPA’s are brewed with tons of hops that boast a noseful of aromatics. Using a glass that is slightly tapered with a laser etching on the bottom is best for enjoying IPA’s. This has two key elements: the laser etching allows for a steady stream of carbonation from the bottom of the glass. This pulls aromas into the nosing area of the glass and stays around due to the slight taper on top!
