Great Taste Magazine
In the heart of Los Angeles, lies an iconic hotel that will surely give you an experience to relive old Hollywood glamour and style in all its glory. The Sportsmen’s Lodge, located on Ventura Blvd. in Studio City, has been a unique dining and relaxation destination to all of the Hollywood elite including John Wayne, Katharine Hepburn, and Humphrey Bogart. The Ventura Boulevard address means you’re never far from legendary Hollywood attractions. Guests are just a few minutes from couture Los Angeles shopping, numerous beaches, Beverley Hills, and guests can jump on the free hotel shuttle to spend the day at Universal Studios Hollywood, just minutes away. When guests are ready to relax from their day’s extravaganza, the pool and poolside bar are a welcome respite or they can enjoy drinks and dining at either one of the hotel’s restaurants, The Patio Cafe or River Rock.
Founded in 1962 as a trout-fishing resort, the Lodge is now a coveted location for film and television. The Historic Sportsmen’s Lodge offers 190 rooms spread throughout five floors. Renovations are in progress that are providing the hotel with a contemporary twist. Each deluxe room is to be filled with modern conveniences, comfy accommodations, and offer a variety of amenities, such as complimentary Wi-Fi, exclusive bath products, and the property is 100% non-smoking for your comfort. The completed rooms offer a cool, upbeat vibe and understated comfort. The Sportsmen’s Lodge sits on eight acres of stunning landscaping featuring waterfalls, lagoons, towering redwoods, gazebos, and the largest swimming pool in all of San Fernando Valley. If indoors is more your style the Lodge offers elegant ballrooms, banquet spaces, and conference boardrooms.
We can’t forget to mention the diverse drinks and dining the Sportsmen’s Lodge has to satisfy any craving. River Rock used to bewhere diners caught trout at the nearby lake to bring over for the Chef to cook up fresh-to-order. Executive Chef Marcos Aranas now creates flavorful fresh menu items for brunch and dinner. The Patio Cafe is open daily from 7am to 10pm and is known as one of the best breakfast places in town. Besides breakfast, Patio Cafe offers a blast from the past by adding retro TV dinners to the menu. The TV dinners come in customized trays with delicious entrees such as eggplant-tofu lasagna and bacon wrapped meatloaf. Alongside the main course there are little places for peas and carrots, and of course dessert, just like the originals from the 60’s!
