The 4th Annual Food, Wine, and Spirits Festival in San Francisco, aka SF Chefs 2012, recently kicked off on June 30th and will last till August 5th. Tickets for the events are on-sale now and are sure to sell out.

EYE ON THE BAY’S SF CHEFS PREVIEW SERIES

DEMO: DOUGH BEGINNINGS

WHO: Danny Gabriner (Sour Flour)

WHEN: Saturday, July 7, 2:00PM

WHERE: Ferry Plaza Farmer’s Market

WHAT: Get up close with some of your favorite chefs at the Ferry Plaza Farmers Market! This series of demos is hosted by Liam Mayclem of Eye on the Bay (CBS 5) and Foodie Chap (KCBS). San Francisco’s been known for sourdough bread since the Gold Rush and some local bakeries can even trace their starters back to 1849! Pros and dough novices alike will enjoy this class devoted to starters, the base for bread. Sour Flour’s Danny Gabriner will share how time, temperature, hydration, and expansion impact the starter as well as demonstrate how to shape dough into beautiful loaves of bread. Guests will take home everything they need to create a perfect loaf in their own oven. Ticket Price: $45 / $36 (Visa Signature).

WHERE: Atelier Crenn

WHAT: For a longtime Dominique Crenn and Jason Fox admired each other’s skills from afar, but as soon as they tasted one another’s food, they knew they were kindred culinary spirits. The chefs share a philosophy of innovation and exploration that has helped evolve California cuisine. For this special meeting of the minds, Dominique and Jason will create a multicourse menu that is both playful and poetic. Guests will begin their meal with a handcrafted Campari aperitif, specially curated by the chefs. Ticket Price: $250 / $240 (Visa Signature).

DINNER: MODERN AMERICAN PICNIC

WHO: Lori Baker & Jeff Banker (Baker & Banker), Nick Balla & Cortney Burns (Bar Tartine)

WHEN: Monday, July 9, 6:00PM and 8:00PM

WHERE: Baker & Banker

WHAT: Jeff Banker and Lori Baker became friends with Nick Balla during his days at O Izakaya, where they often came in for dinner and found inspiration in his cooking. When an opportunity to cook together revealed itself, the friends jumped at the chance to create something special in the kitchen together. The trio invites you to Baker & Banker for a feast of all-American picnic classics sophisticated takes on family-style favorites like fried chicken, mac & cheese and other sides paired with local beers on tap. With this unique dinner you can enjoy what’s best about a summer picnic without the hassle of ants, bees or rain-outs. WHAT: Get up close with some of your favorite chefs at the Ferry Plaza Farmers Market! This series of demos is hosted by Liam Mayclem of Eye on the Bay (CBS 5) and Foodie Chap (KCBS). Expert butcher Ryan Farr (4505 Meats) will breakdown a whole lamb, explaining the best ways to prepare its many tasty cuts, and demonstrate how lamb can pair perfectly with Almanac beers. Portions of lamb will be auctioned off so guests can practice preparing this versatile animal at home. Ticket Price: $35 / $28 (Visa Signature).

DINNER: FAMILY NIGHT: GOING BASQUE

WHO: Jen Biesty (Scala’s Bistro), Alicia Jenish (Grand Cafe)

WHEN: Monday, July 16th, 6:30PM

WHAT: Chefs Jen Biesty and Alicia Jenish first became friends behind the burners of Loretta Keller’s Bizou, where they often cooked dishes from the Basque region. These days, the friends cook in restaurants just blocks from one another other and often meet for late-night drinks and eats at neighborhood spots like The Burritt Room, Cantina, Ryoko’s and Sanraku. For their Dinner Party Jen and Alicia are getting back in the kitchen together with a return to their early influences. Join these two talented chefs for a family-style Basque feast featuring their unique interpretations of dishes that meld the cuisines of France and Spain together. The dinner will be paired with a delightful selection of Basque-style wines. Ticket Price: $85 / $75 (Visa Signature).

DINNER: STREET FEAST

WHO: Antelmo Faria (Tacolicious), Ryan Farr (4505 Meats), Alex Ong (Betelnut)

WHEN: Monday, July 19th, 6:30PM

WHERE: Tacolicious

WHAT: Telmo, Ryan and Alex owe their friendships to the Center for Urban Education about Sustainable Agriculture (CUESA). Tacolicious and 4505 Meats both got started at the weekly Thursday markets. Alex was Tacolicious’s first guest chef creating wildly popular tacos for crowds of guests. The trio is getting together for an interactive, family-style street food feast. A whole pig will be roasted, platters of Mexican and Asian inspired dishes will be consumed and a whole lot of fun will be had. To support their pals at CUESA, Ryan will carve a whole animal before the meal and his cuts will be auctioned off, along with a chef dinner for 10. Ticket Price: $95 / $85 (Visa Signature).

There may be nothing better than finishing a meal with a perfectly ripe peach or plum but including these gems in a composed dessert takes stone fruits to a higher level. WHAT: Get up close with some of your favorite chefs at the Ferry Plaza Farmers Market! This series of demos is hosted by Liam Mayclem of Eye on the Bay (CBS 5) and Foodie Chap (KCBS). From Korean kimchi to kosher half sours, pickling is done all over the globe. Join Wise Sons chefs Evan Bloom and Leo Beckerman and Namu Gaji’s Dennis Lee for an exploration of this affordable technique for preserving and adding pizazz to your Farmers Market finds. WHAT: The Bay Area is home to many excellent chefs, but there are only nine that hold the four-star designation from the San Francisco Chronicle. An extraordinary evening awaits as part of SF Chefs 2012 all nine chefs are coming together for the first time to create one unforgettable dinner. Hosted at Quince Restaurant, the newest addition to the roster, the nine-course menu will be paired with wines hand-selected by the restaurants’ talented Wine Directors. A portion of the proceeds from this event will benefit the San Francisco and Marin Food Banks.
