Learn about baijiu before anyone else can pronounce its name with The Museum of the American Cocktail!
The Museum of the American Cocktail (MOTAC) presents “Baijiu: Spirited Essence of China,” the next edition of Touring the Cocktail: MOTAC Los Angeles. The seminar will take place Monday, September 22 at 6:30 PM at Hakkasan Beverly Hills (233 N Beverly Dr, Beverly Hills). We’ll sample traditional baijiu, learn about its origins and evolution, and see how it’s used in 21st-century mixology.
The Chinese invented distilling over 2,000 years ago, but the spirits made there, despite being the world’s most widely consumed strong drink, are little-known outside the country. These spirits are known as baijiu, and since a variety of them have become more widely available in recent years modern bartenders have discovered them and developed ways of showcasing their unique character.
Yuan Liu, Director of Business Development at CNS Enterprises, and Manny Burnichon, CEO of Private Cask Imports, will discuss the history of baijiu and how they are bringing this particular part of Chinese culture to the world. Drinkmaster Tarita Liza Noronha will prepare the cocktails and demonstrate how to incorporate baijiu into modern mixology. Hakkasan, the international chain of fine-dining Cantonese restaurants, will pair their superb food with these revelatory cocktails.
Tickets are $40 in advance and $50 at the door. SoFAB-MOTAC and USBG Members can purchase discounted admission at $35. Purchase in advance: CLICK HERE.
