BBQ Bootcamp with Steven Raichlen
ALISAL GUEST RANCH & RESORT’S

BBQ BOOTCAMP RETURNS SEPTEMBER 26-28, 2018

WITH PBS TV STAR STEVEN RAICHLEN

The celebrated bi-annual BBQ Bootcamp features special guest TV host and grill master Steven Raichlen to lead seminars on iconic Santa Maria-style barbecue.

The Alisal Guest Ranch & Resort’s twice-annual BBQ Bootcamp returns September 26-28, 2018 featuring barbecue expert and Project Fire TV host Steven Raichlen among the lineup of guest chefs. Considered the man who reinvented modern barbecue, Raichlen will join the talented team at Alisal to lead a unique, hands-on barbecue workshop for grillers of all levels. As specialists in BBQ for over 60 years, Alisal’s signature culinary event offers guests an opportunity to learn about the region’s iconic Santa Maria grilling techniques along with local wine and beer tastings, and in-depth workshops on spice blending, grilled desserts, flatbreads, and much more.

Raichlen, also an award-winning cookbook author, filmed a season of his show Project Smoke at Alisal in 2016 and a season of Project Fire in 2017.  He will be back for a day to share his sizzling secrets and contemporary cutting-edge grilling techniques with BBQ Bootcamp guests. Raichlen will join Alisal’s Executive Chef Anthony Endy, Hitching Post II owner Frank Ostini, local legend Chef Clark Staub, and celebrated chocolatier Valerie Gordon to provide Bootcampers with hands-on instruction, demos, and sage advice, all heavily seasoned with a dose of humor in a casual, relaxed environment.

Additional seminars expand beyond barbecue and cover country cooking as a whole with workshops such as:

Skillet Desserts, Cakes, Compotes and Caramel Making on the Grill with Los Angeles-based confectioner, Valerie Gordon | Valerie Confections
Grilled Flatbreads with Chef Clark Staub | Full of Life Flatbread
Intimate wine tastings led by notable Santa Barbara County winemakers arranged by Alisal’s new food and beverage director Kyle Erickson
Guests will also participate in Alisal’s signature Breakfast Ride. The two-hour round trip horseback ride transports guests amongst giant sycamores and Alisal’s 100-acre spring-fed lake to the historic Old Adobe Camp, where a crackling campfire and a hearty country breakfast of flapjacks and strawberry jam from Valerie Gordon and Chef Endy awaits.

In addition to the culinary events, Bootcamp guests have the opportunity to enjoy Alisal’s many ranch experiences such as fly fishing, archery, hiking, and more. Family owned since 1946, the hidden Santa Ynez Valley gem has remained a rare destination where time seems reluctant to move forward. The 73 telephone-and-television-free guest cottages and suites sit in the foothills of Alisal’s 10,500 acres and are outfitted with individual wood-burning fireplaces contributing to the full dude ranch experience.

Guests can make reservations by calling (800) 425-4725.
