Take a once-in-a-lifetime day trip to the Valle de Guadalupe for a cross-border exploration of some of the most prestigious wineries, restaurants and culinary experiences found in Baja, CA. Hosted by Fernando Gaxiola of Baja Wine + Food, spend the day discovering the wineries, chefs and restaurants that make gastronomy from Baja one of the most talked about food trends in the world. Talent includes: Chefs Sheyla Alvarado and Javier Plascencia, and Winemakers Camillo Maroni and Fernando Perez Castro among others. Adventure awaits!

YOUR ITINERARY INCUDES:

7:30am | Meet at Old Town Trolley Station

8:00am | Departure from San Diego

10:00am | Harvest and  Wine + Food at Finca La Carrodilla
Sip wine while you tour the garden with the agronomist and rising star chef Sheyla Alvarado. Learn about biodynamic practices and get to harvest (optional) the vegetables and herbs for your lunch . We’ll continue with an exclusive winery tour and wine tasting at the private cellar with the winemaker/owner Fernando Pérez Castro. To end this visit, a well earned al fresco dining experience at the rooftop garden with the chef and winemaker.

1:00pm | The Art of Blending at Henri Lurton
Drink the best Chenin Blanc made in Mexico as revolutionary enologist Lulú Martínez welcomes you to Bodegas Henri Lurton. Next, a behind the scenes winery tour followed by a once-in-a-lifetime wine experience: Handcrafting your own wine! Learn the “Art of Blending” from the master who is changing the winemaking industry in México. Last, you’ll get to taste their unreleased private reserve.

3:00pm | Olive Oil, Wine, Balsamic Vinegar, and Cheese at Bodegas Magoni
Meet the godfather of winemaking in México, the living legend Camillo Magoni. With wine in hand, he’ll walk us through his winery, olive oil production plant and balsamic vinegar barrel room. You’ll hear about the history of winemaking in the region from the only person who has witnessed 55 harvest seasons in Baja’s wine country and experimented with 112 different grape varietals. We’ll finish under a centennial oak tree with a sunset wine tasting experience of his private, unreleased collection of premium labels accompanied by local cheeses and Magoni’s in-house 20 year-old balsamic vinegar.

5:00pm | Valle de Guadalupe’s Bounty at Animalon with Chef Javier Plascencia & Guest Winemakers
Feast will commence at twilight at to the most magical setting in Valle de Guadalupe: Animalon by Baja chef superstar Javier Plascencia. The dining room is embraced by the canopy of a 200+ year-old oak tree and is surrounded by Magoni’s vineyards. Chef Plascencia will design a special menu for the evening using produce from his on-site garden, local ingredients and wines by guest wineries Bodegas Henri Lurton & Magoni.
