The Gray Event
Having convinced Orange County of his unmatched capability with classic French cuisine, Chef Pascal Olhats is sharing his skills and hosting a fundraising event to shine light on a little-known issue near to his heart: preventing the abuse of Asian elephants.
Olhats was inspired to take action after enjoying an ecotourism vacation with his wife, Christine, at Save Elephant Foundation’s Elephant Nature Park preserve in Chang Mai, Thailand. “We met elephants rescued from all over the region,” said Olhats. “Some had scars from shackles, while others had been used for tourist entertainment, causing major damage to their bodies. I was inspired by SEF’s founder Lek Chailert, and knew I wanted to take action once I returned home.”
On Sunday, October 23, Olhats will introduce Chailert and welcome guests to the Sherman Library and Gardens in Corona del Mar, California. Beginning at 4:00 PM, guests can meet Chailert at a reception with Thai appetizers, music, and dance. At 6:00 PM Olhats will host a dinner featuring Chailert’s own recipes, as well as a cooking demonstration by Cathy Thomas and Olhats. Tickets for the reception are $100, while tickets for the entire evening’s events are $250.
“Sherman Gardens is the perfect backdrop for an event focused on such beautiful animals,” said Olhats. “I know our guests will be inspired not only by the program we have planned, but the sheer beauty that will surround them throughout the evening.”
