The Hobbit is beyond excited to host long time Napa/Sonoma winemaker and icon, Ed Sbragia, who will be pouring wines from his very own Sbragia Family Vineyards. We’ve all heard it said of someone that a certain passion or history is ‘in their DNA’ – but it may well be that Ed Sbragia actually has wine flowing in his veins! Ed’s grandfather, an immigrant from Tuscany, made his way to Sonoma at the turn of the century, and worked in a winery. His father, Gino, also took to winemaking and grew zinfandel near Healdsburg.
After a chemistry degree from UC Davis, and a masters in enology from Cal State Fresno, Ed became the assistant winemaker at Beringer – sitting under the tutelage of the great Myron Nightingale. During his 32 years at Beringer, Ed crafted Wine Spectator’s ‘wine of the year’ on two separate occasions – once for Chardonnay, and once for Cabernet.
He continues to craft world class wines with passion, now alongside his own son – Adam Sbragia. Don’t miss the chance to enjoy a special evening with one of Napa and Sonoma’s legends.
