Strawberry Workshop – Coastkeeper Garden – Orange

The Coastkeeper Garden will share the secrets of successful strawberry growing at its free workshop on April 4. Orange County’s Strawberry Expert Julie Baudin Davis will demonstrate how to choose, plant and care for this delicious crop, which is drought tolerant and pesticide free.

Southern California’s mild climate is ideal for strawberry growing, and they can be grown in pots for small spaces such as balconies or porches. But, it takes a special blend of strawberry plants and know how to keep strawberries growing throughout the year.

Learn the secrets to organic mouth-watering strawberries from the woman who literally wrote the book- Julie Baudin Davis, the author of, “The Strawberry Story: How to Grow Great Berries Year-Round in Southern California.” This fun and informative workshop includes:

• Strawberry tastings
• A drawing for a plant give away
• A book signing by the author
• Strawberry plants, soil and fertilizer available for sale

The Coastkeeper Garden is pleased to host this event that covers everything from picking the right place to grow strawberries, care of the delicious plant and maintenance throughout the year.

Presented by Orange County Coastkeeper, the Coastkeeper Garden is a 2.5-acre educational tool that teaches the importance of individual stewardship in protecting our natural resources. Located adjacent to Santiago Canyon College, this unique sustainable garden showcases plants that thrive in Southern California’s drought prone climate.
