After announcing the sale of Sababa Restaurant & Lounge at The Marketplace, owner Sagi Rochman says he will throw a farewell party over the course of two days so he can say goodbye to his loyal guests of five years. Starting at 5pm on July 30 and 31, Sababa will kick into high gear with Rochman at the helm for the last time.
“Selling Sababa has been very emotional for me,” said Rochman. “I’m not sure what the new owner plans to do, but I’m very proud of what we’ve built from scratch. ”
On Thursday, July 30th, the restaurant will have its official goodbye with many of the regular musicians stopping by to perform live music throughout the evening. The following night guests will be treated to Sababa’s Human Jukebox Show. All of the DJs that have worked at Sababa over the years will return to spin music for a final time later that evening.
Rochman added that he didn’t just want to walk away without having a proper goodbye for his guests, so he plans to cover an entire wall with butcher paper encouraging guests to sign it.
“I plan to hang it in my new office at Better Chains,” said Rochman.
After a successful five-year run as one of Long Beach’s most popular places to dine, drink and mingle, Rochman decided it was time to concentrate on his new business venture Better Chains. Better Chains is a cloud-based restaurant management tool designed to help franchise owners streamline operations with simple solutions for interviewing and onboarding employees, scheduling, creating checklists and procedural guides all available in a plug-n-play fashion from a tablet or smartphone. The start-up, which launched six months ago, already has dozens of clients from Long Beach to New York to Israel.
“I’m very excited about the future of Better Chains,” said Rochman. “But when I leave here for a final time on July 31 it will be a difficult chapter for me to close. I hope to pack the place the night before and just have a great time with the guests. There will still be a restaurant here, but the only difference is I won’t be running it.”
Sababa is open Tuesday-Thursday 5pm-midnight; until 2am Friday and Saturday; and4pm-10pm on Sunday until the end of the month. The new owners have not disclosed their plans as of yet.
Sababa will host its Farewell Party July 30 and 31, the final two days the restaurant is open, and things will kick off at 5pm both Thursday and Friday. The restaurant is located next door to BevMo at The Marketplace in Long Beach where 2nd Street and Pacific Coast Highway meet.
