The Tuscany wine region is located in the northwestern portion of Italy. Tuscany wine region includes seven coastal islands and is Italy’s fifth largest wine region. Tuscany is bordered by Liguria in the northwest, Emilia-Romagna in the north with Umbria on its east and Lazio on its south. The Tyrrhenian Sea on its west , creates a mediterranean climate. Tuscany’s terrain is mostly hilly but progresses inward to the Apennine Mountains along the border with Emilia-Romagna. The hills create as a tempering affect on the summertime heat with many vineyards planted on the hillsides of higher elevations.
