A breath of fresh culinary air will soon sweep through Costa Mesa. COSTA Peruvian Cuisine, an upscale fusion of Peruvian and Japanese sensibilities, is opening at 650 Anton Boulevard in Costa Mesa. Fans of Santa Ana’s Eqeko Cocina Latina, that closed in 2017, will recognize the influence of the owners. The husband and wife team of Kay Ayazi and Jose Gutierrez, see COSTA as an elevated version of their original Latin concept. The restaurant’s pre-opening Executive Chef Renzo Macchiavello describee the menu as “traditional Peruvian and Japanese dishes with a fresh, modern-day twist.” Ayazi reflects, “We took time off to find the perfect location for our menu and our cuisine. We’re very excited to be in South Coast Metro.” A review of the original Eqeko Cocina Latina recalled the remarkable freshness of their offerings, highlighting the bold flavors and the finesse with which both these cuisines were executed. Patrons can expect the same culinary inspiration and more at COSTA. The 1,300 square foot space will eventually house a bar and feature high ceilings, an open kitchen and will have a light and airy feel. Ayazi is excited to bring the re-imagined space to life stating, “We cannot wait to share our vision and our food with the community.”
