The Ranch at Laguna Beach is thrilled to announce Harvest registered as Laguna Beach’s first “Ocean Friendly Restaurant” by the Surfrider Foundation. The program offers restaurants an easy way to show their commitment to making sustainable choices for the ocean. There are a total of 128 certified Ocean Friendly restaurants across the United States, with 41 of the certified restaurants in the Orange County area.

The Surfrider Foundation established a list of criterion in order for a restaurant to be registered as a certified ocean friendly eatery. The mandatory criteria includes eliminating the usage of Styrofoam and plastics, having only reusable tableware be made available, and the proper recycling practices are followed daily. Additional obligations include: no plastic bottles be served, plastic straws be provided upon request, and energy and water conservation efforts are assertively in place.

The Surfrider Foundation is a nonprofit environmental organization driven by a network of coastal defenders who are devoted to the protection of our ocean, waves and beaches. What started as a group of surfers that came together to protect their local beaches from overdevelopment and pollution has grown over the past thirty years, into one of the most powerful coastal protection groups in the world. The Surfrider network has achieved more than 400 victories, representing coastal wins for beach access, coastal preservation, healthy beaches, ocean protection and clean water. The volunteer-led Surfrider network located in 35 states works daily on more than 90 active campaigns to protect our nation’s ocean, waves and beaches.
