Knife Pleat Launches Lunch Service

On the heels of a successful opening at South Coast Plaza, Knife Pleat has extended its modern interpretations of classic French techniques to lunch service. Under the guidance of Michelin-starred chef Tony Esnault and restaurateur Yassmin Sarmadi the restaurant will serve lunch daily featuring a more casual à la carte and three-course menu, but with Esnault’s same focus on flavor and artistic execution that has impressed diners since Knife Pleat debuted in late June.

“Guests have been clamoring for lunch service and we are delighted to now offer it,” says Sarmadi. “Our lunch menu is comprised of a variety of appetizers, light yet satisfying seasonal salads and entrées, as well as Tony’s daily prix-fixe menu. It’s perfect for a business lunch or a lovely break while shopping at South Coast Plaza.”

The restaurant provides three seating options: al fresco dining on the contemporary patio where guests may bask in the beautiful Southern California weather; the elegant but comfortable dining room, or a front-row seat to the kitchen action from the petit bar.

Knife Pleat’s lunch menu starters include a tender grilled octopus and steak tartare made with pasture-raised beef. Among the salad selections are Esnault’s masterful whole butter lettuce with pickled shallots, grain salad with autumn vegetables and a luscious lobster Caesar with avocado.   Entrees range from housemade strozzapretti pasta and ocean trout to pasture bird chickenduck cassoulet and steak frittes.

A smart three-course prix-fixe menu is offered for $32 at lunch, consisting of chef’s selection of seasonal soup or salad starter, followed by a daily entrée and dessert created by talented French pastry chef Germain Biotteau.

Knife Pleat serves lunch 11:30 a.m.-2 p.m. daily; dinner 5:30-9 p.m. Monday through Saturday; and Afternoon Tea 3-5 p.m. on Sundays, beginning September 29.
