Chef Pretty joined Restauration as executive chef in October 2015, hired by Tanner with then partner Rob Robertson. Chef Pretty acquired Robertson’s share of the restaurant in December 2016 when Robertson moved on to another venture.
A graduate of Le Cordon Bleu, Pretty is classically trained in French and contemporary cuisine. Since culinary school, Pretty has spent his career at renowned Los Angeles restaurants such as Providence, Michelin Star-rated Joe’s, Gordon Ramsay’s The London under the tutelage of Chef Anthony Keene, who Pretty credits with molding him into an executive chef and where he learned true seasonality and sustainability, then spent two years as executive chef at Axe and another two at Fundamental before joining Restauration at the end of last year.
“There’s no one I’d rather work side by side with at Restauration,” Dana Tanner said. “From the beginning, Chef Philip and I have had the same philosophy when it comes to the food we source and serve and the way the restaurant should operate.”
“I’m looking forward to this next chapter in my culinary career,” added Chef Pretty. “From day one at Restauration, I felt like I’d found my home, so when the opportunity to partner with Dana became available, there was no hesitation.”
A Long Beach native, Chef Pretty lives in the Alamitos Beach neighborhood and enjoys spending time with his two young daughters.
