Salt & Straw Ice Cream in the Works for Downtown Disney

Salt & Straw Logo

Salt & Straw will open its first Orange County scoop shop at the Downtown Disney District in Anaheim later this year. The family-run ice cream company known for its taste-provoking flavors will offer flavors that uniquely capture the spirit of classic Americana.

Founded in 2011 by cousins Kim and Tyler Malek in Portland, Ore., Salt & Straw has become a West Coast favorite with scoop shops in Los Angeles, San Diego, San Francisco, Seattle, in addition to its soft-serve dessert bar, Wiz Bang Bar, in Portland. Each of head ice cream maker Tyler Malek’s inspired flavors is handmade in small batches using the best local, organic and sustainable ingredients, including cream from Scott Brothers Dairy, a family-owned farm in Southern California. Special offerings will be available seasonally, showcasing Tyler’s passion for working with local produce and artisanal products.

“At Salt & Straw, we find so much inspiration from our communities and it’s really a dream to be opening in Downtown Disney District, a gathering place for Orange County locals and visitors from around the world,” said Kim Malek, co-founder, Salt & Straw. “We can’t wait to be part of the inclusive and joyful culture there that feels so authentic to our vision as a company to be the highlight of someone’s day.”

“We are excited to bring the unexpected flavors and exceptional hospitality of Salt & Straw to Downtown Disney,” said Brent Davies, General Manager, Downtown Disney District. “This location will offer another fresh, new and fun experience for our guests as part of the ongoing transformation of the Downtown Disney District.”

Salt & Straw is working closely with Portland-based Osmose Design to create a one-of-a-kind Downtown Disney shop design. Custom pieces evoke the feel of a modern-day mercantile and set the stage for locals and visitors to gather for Salt & Straw’s hand-crafted scoops.

The community focus is echoed in Salt & Straw’s dedication to supporting local schools, and raising awareness for issues such as childhood hunger and equal rights. With the Downtown Disney location opening later this year, Salt & Straw will expand this ongoing commitment to its new Orange County community.
