Slapfish Fights Food Insecurity with Crave-Worthy Dishes

September is Hunger Action Month, and Slapfish is making a difference by partnering with Bracken’s Kitchen, serving Orange County children suffering from the ongoing effects of poverty and hunger. During the month of September, the Modern Seafood Franchise donates fifty percent of proceeds from every Sweet Pow Shrimp & Lobster Bowl purchased in its Orange County restaurants to the local nonprofit. Guests also have the option to donate $10 to Bracken’s Kitchen in exchange for a complimentary Lobster Roll (valued at $25).

Bracken’s Kitchen is on a mission to combat both the issues of food insecurity, as well as the larger issues of poverty and food waste in Southern California, supporting underserved communities. Through this partnership, Slapfish aims to raise $10,000 total, with the goal of purchasing a second food truck for the Kitchen’s “Food Truck Feeding Program”. Going above and beyond the typical food pantry options, Bracken’s Kitchen offers healthy, balanced dishes by partnering with chef-driven restaurants such as Slapfish.

“In an area plush with restaurants, year-round produce, and some of the best food in America, it’s crazy to think that nearly a quarter of Orange County children are food insecure,” says Chef Andrew Gruel, founder of Slapfish. “When it comes to hunger, every one of us is touched in some way, and the Slapfish family believes that this problem can be  fixed through awareness, dialogue and action. Food waste, inadequate nutrition, and food insecurity are all problems that have a solution, and we look forward to making an impact in partnership with Bracken’s Kitchen.”

While Orange County is known for beautiful beaches and custom yachts, hunger is as abundant as the sandy beaches. According to Feeding America, one in six children in the community are at risk of hunger, and nearly half of all public school children rely on reduced or free lunches for their major source of nutrition. By joining forces with Bracken’s Kitchen, Slapfish aims to provide high quality meals to local children in need, one child at a time.
