Verne Lusby, the notoriously likable, positive, generous, all around great guy, President of FreshPoint Southern California since 2001, retires tomorrow June 29, 2018. Involved in the distribution industry for virtually all of his life, Verne knows the business inside and out. Starting out in the family business in Oregon, he then graduated from Oregon State University and took a job at Oregon Food Service before moving to California to work for Glencoe/Sysco in the early 1980s. When Sysco acquired FreshPoint, Verne became President and grew the company into the efficient and popular produce distributor in Southern California. Verne has actively supported many hospitality organizations here in the Orange County area including the CRA, the Cal State Long Beach hospitality program and the Collins School at Cal Poly Pomona. Verne has always lent support to Great Taste Magazine and we’ll certainly miss him. Verne will be succeeded by EVP Randy Slentz.
It is no surprise that Verne and the team at FreshPoint value Integrity, Safety, Family, Respect, and Teamwork when it shows through in both his personal, and professional life. After retirement, Verne will have more time to spend with his wife Betty Ann, his two grown children, and three granddaughters.
