In response to the devastating earthquake and tsunami in Japan that swept away entire villages and displaced hundreds of thousands of people,Haven Gastropub raised more than $16,000 during a one-day fundraiser at the restaurant. During the event, Haven owners donated 100% of the profits to a relief fund set up through Mercy Corps to help families affected by the disaster.
“The entire Haven Gastropub team is deeply committed to service and this fundraiser for those affected by the tragic events in Japan was an extension of that,” commented Executive Chef Greg Daniels, who along with partners Wil Dee andAce Patel, raised almost $11,000 during a similar effort early last year for those affected by a debilitating earthquake in Haiti. “The staff donating their time along with their gratuities to the earthquake relief fund – that, along with their spirit, is to be commended. The success of this event was the result of a team effort.”
Full details on Haven Gastropub’s partnership with Mercy Corps, including the results of its efforts during the “Haven4Haiti” fundraiser in 2010 and “Haven4Japan” fundraiser, can be found on the restaurant’s official fundraising page at:http://www.mercycorps.org/fundraising/havengastropub.
“We will continue to support relief efforts in Japan through Mercy Corps and we encourage those who would like to join us to visit our fundraising page and donate to the relief efforts,” added Daniels. “We need to remember that we are part of a global community and it is our responsibility to do our part to help those in need – wherever they may be.”
