Hotel andaluz, Only NM Hotel to Receive Best of 2010′ Award for Construction, Design Excellence

The four diamond historic Hotel Andaluz in Albuquerque has been chosen by Southwest Contractor – a leading construction industry magazine – as one of its “Best of 2010” in New Mexico for excellence in construction and design. Hotel Andaluz is the only hotel in New Mexico to receive this honor.

Winners of the distinguished recognition are chosen by an independent jury comprised of design and construction professionals who arrived at their final decisions after carefully scoring each project. Hotel Andaluz was chosen out of four New Mexico hotels/motels that applied.

“The jury considered a variety of criteria for each project, from teamwork and safety to innovation and aesthetics,” says Scott Blair, senior editor of Southwest Contractor. “Even in a down construction market, there were many top-notch projects to choose from.”

“We are honored to receive this recognition,” said Darin Sand, LEED AP of the Goodman Realty Group. “Our entire team worked tirelessly to make this hotel one of the finest in the southwest and in the world. We assembled a team of New Mexican contractors, craftsman and artisans. It truly demonstrates the talent we have right here in the heart of the southwest.”

Hotel Andaluz and NM winners in other categories will be heavily profiled in the December issue of Southwest Contractor and on www.southwest.construction.com. In addition, project teams will be honored during an awards ceremony held in conjunction with the ACEC/NM and SMPS/NM at the Marriott Pyramid, Journal Center in Albuquerque on December 14, 2010. To register for the ceremony, please contact Dawn Tibbetts at acecnm@acecnm.org.

Top winners in each category will also move on to the national “Best of the Best 2010” competition. Those winners will be announced later this year in Engineering News-Record and at www.enr.com.

In addition to New Mexico, the annual competition, now in its 13th year, has separate award ceremonies for Arizona and Nevada. The award competition is sponsored by Southwest Contractor and McGraw-Hill Construction.

In September 2010, Hotel Andaluz was recognized as “Lifestyle Hotel of the Year” by the Boutique and Lifestyle Lodging Association and Hospitality Design magazine. The Hotel was also awarded the “Most Innovative Recycling Project of the Year” in June 2010 by the New Mexico Recycling Coalition.
