L’Opera & The Queen Mary Hit High Notes At So Cal Restuarant Awards

L’Opera Ristorante, the Italian dining establishment credited with revitalizing Pine Avenue, has been presented with the highly coveted 5 Star Award from the Southern California Restaurant Writers at an awards ceremony held recently at The Madison. Considered the “Oscars for restaurants,” the awards committee also presented L’Opera with the Golden Bacchus Award for its stellar wine list. Alegria Cafe & Tapas Bar – Long Beach, the Spanish tapas house recently featured on FOX television, received the 4 Star Award. Restaurateurs Terry Antonelli and Enzo DeMuro, who own and operate both L’Opera and Alegria Cafe & Tapas Bar – Long Beach, accepted the honors.

“On behalf of the entire staffs of L’Opera and Alegria Cafe & Tapas Bar – Long Beach, we accept these awards with gratitude and humility,” said DeMuro. Added Antonelli, “We have worked hard, especially in the past years as we have all faced challenging times, to earn the business of the dining public. We are grateful to have earned these awards and will continue to work hard to please our guests.”

Long known as a premiere dining destination, the Queen Mary scored top honors for its cuisine.

Sir Winston’s, the Queen Mary’s signature restaurant and a Long Beach dining favorite since 1972, earned the highest possible Five Star rating as well as a Golden Bacchus wine award. The Queen Mary’s Champagne Sunday Brunch in the Grand Salon and all-new Chelsea Chowder House & Bar, which emphasizes sustainable and seasonal seafood, received Four Star honors.

“To be recognized by the Southern California Restaurant Writers for offering the very best in dining experiences is something we’re very proud of,” said the Queen Mary’s General Manager Uwe Roggenthien. “The honor is doubly special as we recently completed major renovations in the restaurants and this May we celebrate the 75th anniversary of the ship’s maiden voyage.”
