George’s at the Cove announced that Travis Flood has joined its highly acclaimed culinary team. The San Diego-native returns to America’s Finest City after nearly a decade in the San Francisco Bay Area to join Executive Chef and Partner Trey Foshee at George’s California Modern.

Flood’s cooking philosophy is inspired by his California roots and his love for the region’s great outdoors, making him an ideal match for Foshee’s hyper-local and seasonal menus.

“I’m an ardent proponent of organic and sustainable ingredients and the people who supply them,” said Flood. “Harmony on the plate starts long before the ingredients reach the kitchen.”

A 2002 graduate of the California Culinary Academy in San Francisco, Flood has worked at several notable Bay Area restaurants before joining George’s, including the four-star Fifth Floor under Chef Laurent Gras, whom he credits as his mentor.

Most recently, Flood assisted Chef Mark Sullivan at Spruce in Park City, Utah, during the 2010 Sundance Film Festival. Previously, he was executive chef at Picolo Teatro di Sausalito and executive chef and partner of Moose’s Restaurant in San Francisco’s North Beach neighborhood. He also helped with the opening of the four-star L.20 restaurant in Chicago.

From 2004 to 2007, Flood traded in his professional kitchen for the home kitchen of Peter Thiel, creator of PayPal and CEO of Clarium Capital, where his role as private chef allowed him to develop health-conscious daily menus using all-natural, organic ingredients. The one constant in every kitchen he has managed has been his commitment to weekly farmers market visits.

When he’s not in the kitchen, you will find Flood enjoying local beaches, farms and wineries, or pursuing outdoor endeavors such as riding the bowls of a local skate park, snowboarding, fishing or cycling. He lives with his wife Alison in the Allied Gardens community of San Diego, where he grew up.

Located at 1250 Prospect Street in the heart of La Jolla, George’s at the Cove offers three inspired dining experiences with one breathtaking view of the Pacific Ocean and northern coastline. For more information or reservations call 858.454.4244 or visit www.georgesatthecove.com.
