California Highway Patrol will be out in force at a dozen Southern California Yard House restaurants on Wednesday, May 18, from 5-9pm, as part of Tip A CHiP, a fundraising event for Special Olympics Southern California. All donations raised will go directly to The Law Enforcement Torch Run, which benefits local Special Olympic athletes.
To protect and serve takes on an entirely new meaning as California Highway Patrol officials, as well as local law enforcement, assume the roles of servers, hosts and food runners while working in tandem with Yard House staff. Their official duties for the evening include seating guests, taking orders, serving meals, refilling beverages, and bussing tables. Special Olympics athletes and representatives will work alongside these everyday heroes as ambassadors and hosts.
“Tip A CHiP is one of our most highly anticipated events,” said Harald Herrmann, President and CEO of Yard House Restaurants. “Our guests enjoy having California’s finest serving their tables, it’s a rewarding experience for our staff, and we raise thousands of dollars, as well as awareness, for a very worthwhile cause.”
A CHP patrol car or motorcycle will be on display outside select Yard House location. At the conclusion of their meals, guests will be provided with a Special Olympics envelope should they wish to make a donation. All donations are tax deductible and are accepted in the form of cash, check or credit card. Monies go to support Special Olympics Southern California, which serves more than 11,000 children and adults, ages eight to 80, with intellectual disabilities. The program offers sports training and competition in 23 individual and team sports on a year-round basis.
Tip A CHiP will take place Wednesday, May 18, from 5-9pm at all Southern California Yard House restaurants excluding LA LIVE in Downtown Los Angeles. Yard House, which has several locations in Los Angeles and Orange Counties, as well as the Inland Empire and Downtown San Diego, offers call ahead seating.
