its Scotch whiskey selection, craft beers and pub fare

TAPS Fish House & Brewery has entered into a one-year contract to manage Brea Downtown Irish pub Macallans Public House, known for its extensive collection of fine Scotch whisky, craft beers and gastro pub fare. Macallans, named after the famous single malt Scotch whisky distillery in Craigellachie, Moray, Scotland, opened mid-December last year at 330 W. Birch St.

Owners Mark and Vinka Ferrell of Yorba Linda will spend the next three years in Maryland, a move that played a part in the management agreement with TAPS that went into effect March 2
. .

JM Distribution LLC, a subsidiary of TAPS Fish House & Brewery, owned by TAPS founder Joe Manzella, entered into the management pact with privately held 24 Hospitality, d.b.a. Macallans Public House.

TAPS has anchored downtown Brea since 1999, and Manzella and his team, helmed by company president Chris Snyder, operate TAPS in Corona, The Catch in Anaheim, Lillie’s Q in Brea Downtown and will open a TAPS in Irvine in May. Their experience as seasoned restaurant operators proved to be a fit for Macallans, whose owners were looking for expert managers to run the well-received establishment, Manzella said.

‘We
are frequently approached about management contracts with restaurants across the state, but the Macallans concept-a modern Irish pub right in our backyard, resonated with us, Manzella said. “After 16 years of operating in this market, we feel comfortable and capable to help a start-up venture.

Mark Ferrell, a businessman, is a Scotch whisky connoisseur who was inspired by his travels to open Macallans, whose 200-plus Scotch whisky offerings include The Last Drop ($275 per 2 ounces), The Macallan 30 Year ($150 per 2 ounce) and Glenfarclas 40 Year ($92 per 2 ounce).

In addition to fine spirits, Macallans offers 20 craft beers rotated on draft and 15 craft beers rotated in the bottle. A limited menu serves classic gastro-pub fare.

The 3,100-square-foot Irish pub seats 80 with 15 stools at the bar. Design elements include custom millwork, ornate chandeliers, $900 bar stools handcrafted in Arizona, brick elements throughout and tile work designed by Famosa of Costa Mesa.

Macallans Public House is open Monday to Thursday 4 p.m. to 11 p.m., Friday 4 p.m. to 1:30 p.m., Saturday 3 p.m. to 1:30 a.m., and Sunday 3 p.m. to 11 p.m.
