Celebrate National Michelada Day

Alta Baja Michelada

Alta Baja MicheladaNational Michelada Day is Tuesday, July 12

Micheladas, considered one of the most popular drinks in Mexico, can be described as a Bloody Mary that’s made with beer instead of vodka. There’s so much more to this Mexican drink. A Michelada (pronounced mee-che-LAH-dah), is a Mexican cocktail made with beer, lime juice and tomato juice or clamato (a blend of tomato juice and clam juice) all served over ice in a glass with a salted rim. You can customize it however you want – hot sauce, Worcestershire sauce or even soy sauce.

Available at newly opened Alta Baja’s in Santa Ana’s popular downtown food hall 4th Street Market, Micheladas come in a variety of concoctions: La Santanera – lime and chile rim; La Mera Mera – I Love Michelada Mix and chile rim; La Malandrina – spicy green pepper; La Traviesa – pineapple and coconut; La Chiquita – passion fruit; and of course the La Ultima – La Mera Mera or La Santaner + Aguachile and Botanas (Vegan). At ABM specialty mixes can be purchased in order to create your signature “Miche” at home.

Alta Baja Market – celebrating food and culture in Mexico, the American Southwest and California was created by Natasha Monnereau and Delilah Snell. The market is a love letter to the unique fare and rare finds from above and below the border including kitchen items, dry goods, gifts, books, wines and beers, chiles, moles, heirloom beans, spices, fresh produce, aguas frescas from backyard fruit, and gourmet meats and cheeses from California, Arizona, New Mexico, Tijuana, Ensenada, Valle De Guadalupe and beyond.
