With indoor dining rooms temporarily closed, Descanso Restaurant, the modern taqueria has reimagined its outdoor patio, expanding the footprint for authentic Mexican dining while continuing to offer a robust menu of takeout favorites.
Known for bringing people together for an interactive Plancha Grill experience in the indoor Plancha room, Descanso has pivoted on-site dining to outdoor-only and now highlights its classic Central Mexican street-inspired cuisine hot from the cocina in a lively, open-air setting.
With room for 50 seats at tables spaced at least six feet apart, the 1,500-square-foot patio features extra comforts including umbrellas and heaters for cool summer nights. Vibrant music and tantalizing aromas in the light breeze will transport you to a favorite Mexican vacation or treasured childhood memory.
“We’re lucky to have such a fantastic outdoor space to accommodate our guests,” says Rob Arellano, Managing Partner & Concept Creator of Descanso. “We look forward to reopening our dining room soon; until then, we’re committed to continuing to serve only the freshest, most flavorful ingredients.”
Available for patio dining and takeout, Descanso has released new summer menu items courtesy of Executive Chef Sergio Ortega inspired by the Taquerias of his childhood in Morelia, Michoacan. Seasonal items include entrées like Agave Glazed Salmon with mezcal lemon agave glaze, charred sweet peppers and onion, roasted potatoes, orange segments, cilantro, and chile con limon, and a variety of unique margaritas including the Strawberry Lemonade with El Jimador Blanco Tequila, strawberry-basil shrub, and lemon.
Takeout specials include the Family Taco Meal which serves four to six adults for $58 and housemade 32-ounce margaritas to-go for $29–$32. Sunday Brunch is available for takeout or patio dining from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. and includes Huevos Rancheros, Chilaquiles, Salmon Avocado Toast, and more. Guests may pick up orders curbside or opt for delivery through Doordash and Uber Eats.
Descanso is located at 1555 Adams Ave. Ste. 103, Costa Mesa, CA 92626. Hours of operation are Monday through Thursday from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m., Friday from 3 p.m. to 10:30 p.m., Saturday from 11 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Happy Hour on the patio is from 3 to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday. Descanso is temporarily closed for lunch Monday through Friday but will resume midweek lunches late summer.
