Evoking the good old days, Coast Packing Company, the West’s leading supplier of animal fat beef tallow and lard, and Charles “Chicken Charlie” Boghosian – the deep-fry king of San Diego and points north – will host the Taste the Difference Challenge, a blind taste test for “French Fries Fried Right.” The event, happening at 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 23rd, will be held at the 2017 OC Fair.

“As it happens, July 13 has been designated as National Beef Tallow Day and while that Coast Packing Company Friesdoesn’t become official until next year, we think beef fat truly does produce a better French fry – any day of the year,” said Eric R. Gustafson, CEO, Coast Packing. “That said, we trust that participating OC Fairgoers will feel the same way.  Let the frying begin!”

Now marking its 95th year in business, Coast Packing Company, a closely held corporation, is the number one supplier of animal fat shortenings – particularly lard and beef tallow — in the Western United States.  The company sells to major manufacturers, distributors, retailers, smaller food service operations and leading bakeries. Based in Vernon, Calif., Coast Packing Company is regional, national and, increasingly, global.  In some cases, supplier relationships are multi-generational, extending back 50 years and more.  Coast is also a founding member of the Healthy Fats Coalition.
