Hamlet Foods has launched a new project that aims to help eliminate poverty and hunger in many Filipino communities by creating a viable business model. This new business – designated Hamon, which means “to challenge” in the Filipino language – offers foods which showcase newly developed meat products without artificial preservatives. Hamlet Foods is working closely with Gawad Kalinga, a Filipino relief organization that provides homes and food to the impoverished.
Hamon has already cleared a number of important hurdles. In partnership with mothers from the underprivileged communities, the team developed a number of foods and menu items that are both more natural and appealing to customers. This diverse menu of foods has also earned approval from some chefs in the Philippines. Finally, Hamon has proven successful in test marketing.
The final step for the success of Hamon is to establish its first Hamon Food Stall in a major urban setting. While Hamlet Foods is confident that such an enterprise will be wildly successful, it is seeking financing from the public. With the funds procured on Indiegogo, Hamon can obtain a lease in a high traffic site; purchase refrigerators, utensils and a stall; and hire three Filipino families to run the stall. Hamlet Foods is hoping to raise $24,000 through its crowd-funding campaign.
This business will serve as the seed for a chain of Hamon Food Stalls throughout the country. Each stall generates enough income to support three families. Additional profits will be re-invested into the program to train community members as cooks and business managers, as well 2 Press Release by AB Newswirewww.abnewswire.comas open more stalls. Ultimately, this business model could lift thousands of families out of poverty in just a few short years.
