The new best friend to the sommelier, Incentient’s SmartCellar is a handheld electronic wine list, which debuted in 2009 at New York restaurant SD26. Sommeliers can use this device to educate patrons on a wine list or guests can instantly access the information ordering directly from the SmartCellar with the touch of their fingertip. Keeping with current green trends, SmartTouch’s interactive wine list will redefine restaurants’ use of paper menus.
Convenient, quick and weighing in at less than one pound, SmartCellar allows sommeliers to say “au revoir” to big, bulky leather bound wine lists that need to be constantly reprinted to stay current with inventory demands. Updates are immediate and inventory is always accurate. The device can display information in up to 150 languages and has already reached the international market.
SmartCellar not only provides tasting notes about the particular wine but also automatically updates the wine list as labels sell out. The touch screen application is easy enough for a casual diner but detailed enough for most knowledgeable wine connoisseurs.
