Island Hotel Newport Beach launched its new Market Place in the lobby of the hotel yesterday with a ribbon cutting ceremony attended by local chamber of commerce members and friends. The Market Place was developed to fulfill demand from hotel guests for affordable snacks and small meals to pick up on the go, and provides an opportunity to make selections based on mood, appetite or artfully displayed inspirations. For locals and neighbors, including nearby business tenants and apartment residents, the Market Place is easily accessible and offers an alternative from the local grocery stores and quick service restaurants.
“The Marketplace is a refreshing alternative from traditional hotel room service for customers to pick up everything from a quick cup of illy coffee, or a juice to light snacks to more substantial meals for breakfast, lunch, dinner or late night eating.” said Gerard Widder, General Manager of Island Hotel.
Island Hotel’s master pastry chef, Andy de la Cruz, lends his baking techniques to breakfast, with his “Churro Morning Bun, which is a cross between a Cinnamon Roll and a Churro. The selection of fresh baked items also includes house made granola and the “chocolate croissant twist,” which looks like a twisted donut, with chocolate and custard filling and a variety of fresh baked cookies.
“We prepare foods daily, including artisan sandwiches, like the roast beef and asiago and the Mediterranean vegetable, as well as fresh salads, and rice bowls, with wide offerings including chips, dips and cheeses,” said David Man, Executive Chef at Island Hotel. “Selecting the finest locally sourced, freshly grown, seasonal produce means that fruit and vegetable selections range by day, week, month and season.”
Island Hotel is committed to supporting local business and building partnerships, and as a result, will feature such local items as “Nothing Bundt Cakes” and “B” Toffee.”
Well-recognized high quality beverage products include Krisp cold press juices, Nekter and Naked Juice, Red Bull, Gatorade and Coke products are featured. In addition, selected fine craft beer and wines by the bottle are offered.
A rarity in Newport Beach, as most people are used to Starbucks, Market Place offers “illy” Italian coffee, espresso, cappuccino and lattes. Illy dates back to 1933, when founder Francesco Illy developed the modern espresso machine and is highly recognized today as globally responsible. Its rich signature blend combines nine pure, sustainably grown Arabica beans from four continents.
The Island Hotel seeks to provide variety to its guests, and can make changes quickly, based on demand to continually offer new products that capture the attention of guests and meet their needs.
Island Hotel is at the culmination of its innovative reinvestment project, which began in 2013 with 23,000 square feet of reinvigorated meeting and event space, the largest ballroom in Newport Beach, a distinctive al fresco wedding venue and introduction of its unique Island Club lounge. Oak Grill and Aqua Lounge have recently found a place at the forefront of the Newport Beach dining and social scene. Still to come this winter upgraded rooms and suites with bright vibrant accent colors.
