Due to the economy, closures of many producers, horrible weather conditions, and the high demand of mushrooms is causing a shortage in supply. This trend which is affecting the mushroom industry is unprecedented and suppliers are bound to increases their prices, if they haven’t already. The contributing factor to the high demand of mushrooms is the restaurant industry, for example, McDonald’s, who introduced their Mushroom and Swiss Burger. Interruption of supply of mushrooms is not anticipated, but be aware of the price increases.
