Widely known for his appearances on Bravo’s Top Chef: Masters and for his best-selling cookbooks, Saran rose to culinary prominence in New York for his work at Devi, where he specialized in the flavors of Indian home cooking. Under Saran’s direction, the restaurant became the first Indian restaurant in the U.S. to earn a Michelin Star. Saran left Devi in March 2012.
Although still early on in conceptualization, Saran plans to create a full-service restaurant and a modern bar and lounge at NEMA, with an innovative and seasonal menu. Guests will also enjoy an inventive cocktail menu and wine list in a sleek, modern and dramatic setting.
Saran’s restaurant and lounge joins an impressive collection of other restaurants and retail slated to open in San Francisco’s rapidly re-emerging Mid-Market area, including Alta CA by Daniel Patterson, TBD Restaurant by Chef Mark Liberman and the AQ team, and The Market, a full-service grocery market located in the Twitter building.
NEMA is built for a modern urban lifestyle, affording residents an unmatched level of services and amenities with everything from a 7,000-square-foot Jay Wright-designed fitness center to a heated, outdoor saline pool and three expansive landscaped terraces. The 754-unit, four-tower property, designed by Handel Architects, comprises studio, one- and two-bedroom apartments offering an array of scenic views and modern finishes that include polished concrete or wood floors, stainless steel kitchen appliances, in-unit washers and dryers and European bath fixtures.
