The prestigious 2012 World Tourism Award was presented to the city of New Orleans along with two other winners on Monday at the World Travel Market in London. The awards celebrate extraordinary vision and leadership,
“This is tremendous honor for the city and a testament to the more than 74,000 New Orleanians who work in the cultural economy. Despite all that our city has endured, the word is out that we are still one of the best and most unique destinations on the planet for a vibrant, unforgettable experience,” saidMayor Mitch Landrieu.
New Orleans was chosen in recognition of its extraordinary success in the transformation and rebirth of the tourism industry post-Katrina and in the wake of the Deep Water Horizon oil spill, spurring new economic growth and jobs, to make tourism New Orleans’ largest industry once again.
