On Wednesday, June 10, 2009, thirty-year hospitality industry veteran Ray Jacobi, previously the managing director of Island Hotel Newport Beach, has been named managing partner of The Ritz Restaurant and Garden, an iconic Newport Beach dining destination. In his new position, Jacobi has assumed part ownership of the family-owned and operated venue – which spans 13,000 square feet and encompasses five dining rooms. According to Jacobi, his primary focus will be to bring the landmark establishment “back to the forefront of Newport Beach dining.” The venerable Newport Beach restaurant has been a local institution for decades and is located in the heart of Newport Center. Jacobi was recruited by owner Charles Mathewson to take over as a hands-on partner after Freddie Glusman sold his interest earlier this year.
