Famous for its food and for its celebrity guests, La Dolce Vita has been a staple in Los Angeles dining for over 45 years. Recently, the restaurant honored two of its most loyal and longtime patrons, Frank Sinatra, who needs no introduction, and Hollywood agent producer, and studio mogul Guy McElwaine. The two Hollywood legends received their own booths in the restaurant, joining The Reagans and one of La Dolce Vita’s original owners, George Raft.
“We are delighted to celebrate this momentous occasion with the Sinatra family to pay tribute to Mr. Sinatra and his longtime agent Mr. McElwaine,” says Owner Alessandro Uzielli, who purchased the restaurant in 2003, where it underwent a seven-month “facelift” to painstakingly restore La Dolce Vita to its original, pristine condition, reviving the history and glamour of old Hollywood. “These individuals have left an indelible mark on the entertainment industry, and anyone who knew them, and so we are pleased to dedicate these booths in honor of their legacy.”
Longtime Maitre d Ruben Castro has been with La Dolce Vita since the early 70’s, and reflects fondly on the days when Sinatra and his cohorts, such as Gregory Peck, Sammy David Jr., and Dean Martin used to come in to dine at the restaurant.
“Everyone knows Frank as an entertainer, but here at the restaurant we had the unique opportunity to witness his humanity, and generosity firsthand,” says Castro. “Of course, I reflect fondly on the pranks, the laughs, and all good times shared here at La Dolce Vita, but what I remember most about him was his willingness to help others. I personally saw him remove his Rolex watch and give it to the dishwasher that had lost his watch during dinner service. It is stories like these, and countless others, that give me great pride to call him a friend and honor him at his home away from home.'”
