Gary Rulli, Pastry Chef at Ristobar in San Francisco, was announced the winner of the 49 Square Miles Party, an event that is part of SF Chefs 2012, that took placed on August 2 at the Imperial Floor in The Westin St. Francisco. The winning cake, called Vesta, was named after the street where Rulli was born in San Francisco. His confectionary masterpiece was made of baked raspberry meringue and filled with panna cotta, Domori chocolate bavarese, organic raspberries, and Campari soaked ladyfingers.
The exciting soiree featured a unique cake competition with the city’s best pastry chefs expressing their feelings about San Francisco in cake. Baker & Banker, Fifth Floor Restaurant, Foreign Cinema and Perbacco were among the participating contestants, and their creations were judged by the guests in attendance. The prize for the winning cake was a 10 pound bag filled with chocolate from Guittard Chocolate Company.
