Most restaurants no longer include spoons in their table setting, preferring to provide them only on request or with foods that require them. Though spoons are perhaps the oldest and most widely used utensils in the world, modern foods are typically eaten with knives and forks, and one etiquette expert said, “You only want the utensils on the table that are going to be used.”
